Dr. Russ White Awarded the L’Chaim Prize for Outstanding Christian Medical Missionary Service

Mobilizing Medical Missions (M3) would like to congratulate one of our M3 favorites, Dr. Russ E. White!  Dr. White was awarded the L’Chaim Prize for Outstanding Christian Medical Missionary Service. This $500,000 award was created by Jewish philanthropists, Mark and Erica Gerson, to specifically help the Christian missionary hospitals in Africa, which provide much of the continent’s medical care.  Dr. White is their second recipient, and this gift will go towards his medical mission work at Tenwek Hospital in western Kenya.

Dr. White is a cardiothoracic surgeon at Tenwek and much of his work has focused on treating issues that arise from rheumatic heart disease, something that rarely exists in countries with ready access to antibiotics.  Because things like strep infection regularly go untreated in much of Africa, many Kenyans have heart valves scarred by this disease.  Thus, some of the funds from the L’Chaim Prize will go to train cardiac surgeons to repair valves.

We encourage you to take a few minutes and click here to read more about the L’Chaim Prize and the work that Dr. Russ White and other missionary doctors are doing in Africa.  As Mr. Gerson said of the new award, he hopes it “will galvanize attention around what these superheroes do.”

M3 is excited to announce that one of these superheroes, Dr. Russ White, will be joining us at the conference again as a speaker.  M3 has also chosen Tenwek Hospital as our 2018 Conference “Project of the Year,” which means part of the proceeds from the conference registrations will fund a gift to Tenwek.

We hope you will join us in welcoming Dr. White and be a part of this gift to Tenwek Hospital by registering today to attend the M3 Conference on February 23-24, 2018. Use Promo Code: TAKETHEFIRSTSTEP18 to save 25% off your registration.  This discount offer is good until November 30th.

M3 Attends AAFP Global Health Workshop

In October, Mobilizing Medical Missions (M3) attended the American Academy of Family Physician’s Global Health Workshop as an exhibitor to bring awareness of the M3 Conference to this group of family physicians who have a passion for global healthcare.  Hundreds of physicians from around the world came together to discuss the needs and opportunities surrounding global health.

M3 was honored to represent all of the organizations that partner with us.  During this three day conference, we met many great people who have a heart to serve, and we are already getting positive feedback from the physicians and organizations that we connected with at the conference.

M3 will continue to look for opportunities to spread the word about what our conference represents, so we can serve as a catalyst to mobilize people to get involved.  We invite you to join us on February 23-24, 2018, in Houston, Texas, for the 3rd annual M3 Conference where you can connect with others, be inspired and find your mission.  Register today at m3missions.com.

M3 Welcomes Gary Haugen and International Justice Mission to the 2018 M3 Conference

Although we have been busy with hurricane relief efforts, Mobilizing Medical Missions (M3) has also been busy preparing for our next M3 Conference, which is set for February 23-24, 2018, in Houston, Texas!

We are excited to announce that we have a great line-up of speakers and exhibitors, and we will continue to share information about them with you as we draw near to the conference.  One of those great speakers will be our Keynote Speaker, Gary Haugen, CEO and founder of International Justice Mission (IJM).

Before founding IJM in 1997, Gary was a human rights attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, where he focused on crimes of police misconduct.  In 1994, he served as the Director of the United Nations’ investigation in the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide. In this role, he led an international team of lawyers, criminal prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and forensics experts to gather evidence that would eventually be used to bring the perpetrators of the genocide to justice. Gary received a B.A. in Social Studies from Harvard University, and a J.D. from the University of Chicago.

Gary has been recognized by the U.S. State Department as a Trafficking in Persons “Hero” – the highest honor given by the U.S. government for anti-slavery leadership. His work to protect the poor from violence has been featured by Foreign Affairs, The New York Times, the New Yorker, The Times of India, Forbes, U.S. News and World Report, the Guardian and National Public Radio, among many other outlets.  He is the author of several books, including Good News About Injustice and, most recently, The Locust Effect: Why the End of Poverty Requires the End of Violence. It is an honor to have Gary Haugen join us for the 2018 M3 Conference, and we hope you will join us in welcoming him.  To register to attend the M3 Conference, please click here, and use promo code M318WELCOMEIJM to receive 25% off your registration!  This offer is good through the end of the week and ends on October 8th.
