Bill Rhodes
Dr. Bill Rhodes a California native, moved with his family to Colorado when he was in junior high. He met his wife Laura in high school. Before coming to faith, Bill had no intention of going to college and worked as a manual laborer. He began Bible college at age 22 with a deep interest in the Biblical languages. They lived in Jerusalem, Israel for several years as Bill earned his master’s degree in Biblical Hebrew. A chance encounter picking up two hitchhikers changed the trajectory of their lives and they returned to the USA to pursue medicine as a means of ministering to the “least of these.” Bill is board certified in general surgery and in plastic/reconstructive surgery and has worked at Kapsowar Mission Hospital in Kenya for 26 years. In addition, he and his wife Laura also travel throughout Sub-Saharan Africa performing surgery in difficult to access and low resource facilities. In his spare time, Dr. Rhodes is working on his PhD in Hebrew Old Testament. Laura and Bill have been married 50 years, have four married children and 11 grandchildren. Their son, Zeke, a surgeon and his wife Laila, a nurse practitioner, son-in-law, Tim a pediatric orthopedic surgeon and daughter, Abby, a registered dietitian, work together with Dr. Rhodes in Kapsowar. Their son-in-law, Mike a general surgery resident, daughter Havvah a nurse, youngest son Jude, in his last year of medical school, and his wife Elena, a DPT are training in order to return to Africa.
