Ben Roberts, MD

Ben, along with his wife and 3 sons, live and serve at Tenwek Hospital in Kenya. He first went to Tenwek in 1998 as a senior medical student.  After completing his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery, his family moved to Kenya to serve as missionaries there in 2006.  The Roberts’ ministry motto is “Sharing the Light, Restoring Vision”. Ben oversees the eye department and provides treatments and sight-restoring surgeries to those suffering from eye diseases.   His team is also heavily involved in training ophthalmology residents, clinical officers, and nurses.  The eye team travels to remote parts of East Africa to share this Light and vision with others beyond the hospital’s reach.   The Roberts family is currently on furlough in the U.S., with plans of returning to Tenwek in August 2021.
